Finally after four years, a Bollywood film based on Demonetization is here, Anurag Kashyap’s Netflix film Choked. The news of Demonetization which striked and left the whole nation with a hope of “Achhe Din” but what was the outcome? Common people suffering with endless queues and an opportunity for the money mongers.
Coming back to the film which follows the story of Sarita (Saiyami Kher), a bank employee who works hard for her family, stresssed with her jobless husband Sushant (Roshan Mathew) and handling the responsibility of whole family solely.
Her life takes a turn when she discovers bundles of cash from her ‘Choked’ sink. And just as she feels her life will be better now, the Demonetization strikes and then we follow the story as she deals with the effects of it.
Written by Nihit Bhave, the film captures Demonetization from all the aspects, portraying the hidden side of it too. From long queues to disrupted marriages, Choked covers it all.
Apart from Saiyami and Roshan, Amruta Subhash’s performance was spectacular. The characters all well written, from the lead ones to the supporting ones, everyone is defined perfectly.
Directed by Anurag Kashyap, Choked is a gripping watch with defined writing as well as powerful performances. A film that Unchokes the true side of Demonetization.
