A still from Laal Kaptaan

The film that went unnoticed in 2019 was the historic action drama ‘Laal Kaptaan’ starring Saif Ali Khan, Manav Vij, and Deepak Dobriyal. Directed by Navdeep Singh, this film opens up and follows the story in the late 18th century where a few people are being hanged and this seems to be the reason as this scene is used as a reference point further in the movie. The film set in the history of India includes characters from different reigns including Afghans, Marathas, and Britishers. Though the film received mixed reviews during the release, it should be appreciated for the different periods it portrayed.

And this phase was something new which we witnessed for the first time in the Indian Cinema. This film deserves a watch for the drama it creates. But that’s not the point here we will be telling you how an antagonist (Manav Vij) took over the protagonist (Saif Ali Khan) in this film. Rehmat Khan played by Vij somewhere overpowers Gosain played by Saif.

A still from Laal Kaptaan

Gosain who is out on revenge against Rehmat makes for the story as viewers get the idea in the second half. The protagonist here is portrayed as a lone wolf with no past and future, he’s on a way to seek revenge while Rehmat on the other side, can fight ten to twelve people without even having an expression on his face which is why this character becomes more strong compared to our protagonist. The film lacks quite intriguing parts that were needed to make up for this engaging story.

Rehmat’s character is a gray character who is justified with his work and never feels guilty about it. Manav Vij was highly appreciated for his performance and hence Laal Kaptaan becomes a film where an antagonist overpowers a protagonist.
