Dabangg 3 producer Nikhil Dwivedi is planning a female superhero franchise called Nagin. It is will be a modern take on ‘Ichchadhari Nagin’ (shape-shifting serpent) who has special superhero powers. The film will be based on a best-selling book and folklore and will be made in three parts.
Nikhil has already produced a successful all female film Veere Di Wedding last year. He is reported to be in the process of finalising an actress for this project, which is touted to be India’s first superhero film with a female lead.
The subject of ‘Ichchadhari Nagin’ has been very popular on the small screen recently. On the big screen also there have been several films on the subject. Reena Roy’s Nagin (1976) and Sridevi starrer Nagina (1989) are two commercially successful and most loved snake films. The latter was a blockbuster and proved to be a major watershed moment in Indian Cinema, as the film, despite being a woman-centric movie became a massive commercial success. Nagina also had a sequel in 1989.
On the work front, Nikhil has his hands full as he is also bankrolling the highly-anticipated Salman Khan starrer Dabangg 3. He is co-producing the film with Arbaaz Khan and Salman Khan Films.
Helmed by Prabhudheva and featuring Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Sudeep and debutante Saiee Manjrekar, Dabangg 3 is slated for a December 20 release.
