Hollywood film producer David Foster passed away on 23 December in Los Angeles at the age of 90, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter

Foster had a career spanning over six decades in the entertainment industry with more than 30 films under his kitty, including films like The Getaway, McCabe and Mrs. Miller and John Carpenter’s 1982 science fiction horror film The Thing

Prior to becoming a producer, Foster had worked as a publicist representing actors like Peter Sellers, Steve McQueen, Richard Attenborough and Shirley MacLaine among others. 

The first film he produced was the 1968 Robert Altman’s revisionist western McCabe & Mrs. Miller, with partner Mitchell Brower. Starring Julie Christie and Warren Beatty, it was directed by Robert Altman. 

In 1974, he founded a company called First Artists with Lawrence Turman and their first collaboration was the 1975 The Drowning Pool, starring Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. The partnership went on for twenty years. 

His other film credits include Caveman (1981), Short Circuit (1986), The Thing and its 2011 remake, The River Wild (1994), The Mask of Zorro (1998), Hart’s War (2002) and Collateral Damage (2002).

Foster is survived by his wife, Jackie Pattiz and their three sons: Gary, Tim and Greg, daughter-in-laws Lisa and Marci and grandchildren Daryn, Drew, Kayla, Jackson and Lucas.
