Deepika Padukone, 31-year-old actress, is teaming up with director Vishal Bhardwaj in his next and the actress says it will be extremely challenging to work with the critically acclaimed filmmaker. The actress who is often described as the epitome of beauty is all set to don the role of a Mafia queen in next where she will essay the character of Sapna Didi, the woman who tried to assassinate underworld don and India’s most wanted criminal Dawood Ibrahim.
We have often seen glimpses of Deepika’s badass side in movies such as xXx: Return of Xander Cage, Ram Leela and Bajirao Mastani, but this time, she is turning a don of the 80s in a full fledged role for Vishal Bhardwaj’s next.With this film, Deepika Padukone will reunite with her Piku co-star Irfan Khan who will be playing a role of a local gangster, who is in love with her and helps her in her mission to eliminate Dawood Ibrahim.
The films is adapted from some incidents recounted in the book Mafia Queens Of Mumbai written by Hussain Zaidi and Jane Borges. Sapna Didi is said to have had no criminal background, but the woman took to guns as she wanted to avenge the death of her husband Mehmood Kalia, who was killed by Dawood Ibrahim. She even became a police informer in an attempt to keep tabs on Dawood’s business. Such was her determination to take revenge.
The film is expected to go on floors by the end of the year. As Deepika Padukone is currently shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati.
