Different Metros & Constant Problems ft. Metro Manila (2013) & Citylights (2014)

A still from Citylights

Evolving metro cities, a minute part of Globalisation and Development. But the pros and cons vary from person to person or family to family. The drive to survive keeps the man alive in the toxic nature where big industries rule and overpower the middle and lower classes. Developed cities where it’s not easy to survive for too long, where a common man is a hero who struggles day today in order to earn a better living for his family. The portrayal of such stories in cinema is pretty countable. The 2013 British film ‘Metro Manila’ set in the Philippines talks openly on this topic.

The story was later adopted by Hansal Mehta in 2014 film Citylights which featured Rajkummar Rao and Patralekha in the featured roles, the story was set up in Mumbai where a family from Rajasthan migrates and they fall under the hardships of the city, they try to overcome the problems which unfortunately makes their life a hell.

Hunting for a better lifestyle and in search of a better future for their family, many people migrate to metro cities but within no time they find themselves lost in the city which has withdrawn the peace within it. Standing with and through it, not an easy job to do. But it’s too late to return back and you just need to go with the stream flowing in a direction which has no end. These two films are portraying the hardships and struggles of a family trying to survive in the metro cities. Heart-Wrenching stories where the problem is constant.

Metro Manila and Citylights both do justice to the life of common people and their hardships in the metro cities.
