Sushant Singh starrer Drive which recently premiered on Netflix could not live up to the expectations. The film was supposed to release in cinema halls on 7 September 2018, but was pushed to 28 June 2019, and ultimately did not see a theatrical release.

Now, it seems a similar fate is awaiting Sushant’s another film Dil Bechara that was supposed to release in the end of November this year. While it was recently reported that the film has been postponed to next year, the latest update suggests the film will be released directly on a digital platform.

A source recently said “Dil Bechara will not release on November 29 anymore. There have been last minute changes and the team needs a little more time for the post production of the film. So they have collectively decided to shift the movie to an early 2020 date instead.”

The film is based on author John Green’s 2012 novel “The Fault in Our Stars”, which was also adapted in Hollywood as The Fault in Our Stars (2014). It tells the story of two young terminally ill people who fall in love. While the Hollywood adaptation was a blockbuster, the Hindi remake is being considered too sad for the audience in India.

According to the latest report on the subject on Bollywood Hungama, the film was found to be ‘too depressing’ for mass consumption and may go straight to the OTT platform.

A source close to the development says, “After Drive, producer Fox may offload Dil Bechara on an OTT platform. It would be a double blow for Sushant Singh Rajput. Several careers are at stake. Debutante Sanjana Sanghi, and casting director Mukesh Chhabra makes his directorial debut. The OTT platform would be doom for all concerned.”

Directed by Mukesh Chhabra and produced by Fox Star Studios, the film stars Sushant Singh Rajput and debutante Sanjana Sanghi in the lead roles, and features music composed by A. R. Rahman.
