33 years ago in 1987, the film Dirty Dancing released. The romantic drama starred Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey and became an instant classic. It grossed a mammoth $170 million at the worldwide box office against a measly budget of $5 million. The film not only became iconic but made its actors renowned in the world.

After 33 years now, the studio behind the film, Lionsgate has announced a sequel to it. Actress, Jennifer Grey will star in the sequel and also serve as an executive producer. Johnathan Levine of Warm Bodies fame is going to helm the sequel, the date of which is not yet decided.

In an analyst call, CEO of Lionsgate, Jon Feltheimer announced this news and said :

“It will be exactly the kind of romantic nostalgic movie that the franchise’s fans have been waiting for.”

The premise of the sequel is not revealed, though, in the original film, Jennifer Grey starred as ‘Baby’ Houseman, a teenager who falls in love with a dance instructor (Patrick Swayze) on a vacation at a New York Resort in the ’60s.

Unfortunately, Swayze passed away in 2009 due to cancer.

The classic 1987 film featured the song, “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” which won awards such as an Oscar for the best original song, Golden Globe Award for the best original song, and a Grammy for best duet.

Many classics can come and go but Dirty Dancing will forever remain a constant in Cinema and Hollywood.
