Uri wave washed away the first day of this week’s release ‘Why Cheat India‘. The film had a dull first-day collection and became the lowest ever in real value. It only managed to earn ₹1.50 crores on its opening day, 20-30% less than expected by the trade pundits.

According to the Movie critic and biz analyst Taran Adarsh, the film is a non-starter. He tweeted, “#WhyCheatIndia is a non-starter… Needs miraculous growth over the weekend to post a decent total… Fri ₹ 1.71 cr. India biz.”

According to Box Office India reports, “The film may not just be the lowest Emraan Hashmi opener of recent times but also the lowest ever in real value. It is probably fighting ‘Rush’ as the worst opener of the actor’s career. ‘Rush’ opened at 62 lakhs in 2012 on around 800 screens.”

Soumik Sen‘s ‘Why Cheat India’ is based on the education system in India, where wealthy aspirants and their parents fall into the trap of cheating. Where Emraan Hashmi plays the role of a classic anti-hero who enrolls bright students into his plan, makes them write proxy exams for students who are unable to score or pass, and then, helps them obtain a fake degree.

The story is based on the rural location of Jaunpur, Jhansi, and Kota, where the pressure on the youth for the youth to be Engineers, Doctors, and MBA students is probably more than what the urban city student faces.
