Dhanush

Actor Dhanush is all set to make his Hollywood debut with ‘The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir’. He shared a poster and teaser of the film saying that it has indeed been an extraordinary journey.

Dhanush tweeted, “Here is the teaser poster of “the extraordinary journey of the fakir” .. my first English film. It’s been an extraordinary journey indeed… THIS SUMMER. @LRCF6204 hope you guys like it.”

Talking about the project, Dhanush told IANS, “It’s God’s grace that I landed this offer. Although I have been offered three Hollywood projects, the script of this one really convinced me to sign it. It’s a very strong role. I play a character called Ajatashatru, a street magician. I believe what you spread out comes back seeking you. It’s such a positive film and it’s all about spreading positivity.”

“Irrespective of the industry I work in, I’m constantly learning from the people I work with. If Bollywood taught me a lot about production, Hollywood has been a revelation in terms of understanding filmmaking better,” he added.

Based on a bestseller book “The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe”, the film is an English-French comedy-drama directed by Ken Scott.

In director Scott’s words, the film is a story of a young Indian who comes from Mumbai. “He knows nothing else but his neighborhood. About the movie, I fell in love with the project. Working with Dhanush and other actors from so many different cultures was truly inspiring. We shot in different countries — India, Italy, France, Libya. We wanted to impact these different countries to the main character. Very simply what I tried to do is to get the best out of each actor to find the right balance of drama and comedy.”

“Something in the story makes the movie look like a fable, so we wanted ‘Fakir’ to be very entertaining and adventurous,” Scott added.

Dhanush will be sharing the screen space with Oscar-nominated actors Bérénice Bejo (The Artist) and Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips), Erin Moriarty (of Netflix’s Jessica Jones fame) and Abel Jafri (best known for his work in the Academy Award-nominated 2014 film Timbuktu).

The movie is set to release in France and Belgium on the 30th of May, and Germany on 6th August. The production house is to announce the film’s India release date once the business agreements are completed. In India, the film will be released in Hindi, English, and Tamil.

Dhanush is currently busy with back to back Tamil films including Maari 2, Enai Nokki Paayum Thota and Vada.
