Ashutosh Gowariker is taking a break from history and serious subjects with a stylish, modern, action-packed caper which unfolds in Europe. Farhan Akhtar is the leading man. The hunt for an actress opposite him and also other members of the cast is underway.
Unlike, other films of Ashutosh’s like ‘Lagaan’, which was set during the British Raj in India, ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ which was a historical romance, ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey’, a period drama set in the 1930s against the backdrop of the Chittagong Uprising and ‘Mohenjo Daro’, which referenced the Indus Valley civilisation these films have a contemporary setting.Ashutosh Gowariker’s next film is a thriller about a newlywed couple. It’s a performance-driven film.
While this pairing may surprise some, the duo’s journey dates back to almost 16 years when Ashutosh Gowariker was busy with ‘Lagaan‘ and Farhan with his directorial debut, ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, which released in the same year. The film had one actor in common, Aamir Khan, who was shooting for them almost simultaneously and the two directors were juggling for his dates. Little did Farhan know then that one day he would be directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. They have been discussing this project for a couple of months, it will roll this year.
As per the sources: Ashu and his team met Disha Patani and her team and discussed the project recently. Ashutosh loved her in MS Dhoni and feels she has an amazing screen presence. Talks are on at an advanced stage with the actress for the film. The actress has liked the script, but the modalities are being worked out. Disha has caught the fancy of several banners, but she is opting out of most big projects as she is waiting for Dharma’s Student Of The Year 2, which she thinks will happen soon. She has definitely spoken to Ashutosh, but not signed the film yet.
