Gul MakaiGul Makai

The upcoming film Gul Makai, which is based on the life of Pakistani education activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, has gotten a release date. The biographical drama will come out in cinema halls on 31 January 2020.

The makers took to Twitter account of the film to share the information and wrote, “One child, one teacher, one book & one pen can change the world! Witness the journey of Malala Yousafzai. Gul Makai, in cinemas on 31st January 2020.”

TV actor Reema Shaikh, who has appeared in serials like Khelti Hai Zindagi Aankh Micholi, Diya Aur Baati Hum, Tu Aashiqui, Tujhse Hai Raabta, and others, will be seen playing the central character of Malala. The film also features seasoned actors like Om Puri (in his final film), Divya Dutta, Atul Kulkarni, Mukesh Rishi, Arif Zakaria and Pankaj Tripathi.

The film tells the story of a teenage girl from Swat valley who raised her voice for the education of girls in her town which was seized by the Taliban. She began blogging on the BBC Urdu website under the pseudonym Gul Makai. As she continued her activism, Malala was later shot by the Taliban. Her case was picked up by the global media and she gained worldwide recognition eventually winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014.

Produced under the banner of Tekno Films and Pen Studios, and presented by Dr. Jayantilal Gada, Gul Makai is written by Bhaswati Chakrabarty and directed by  H.E. Amjad Khan.
