Gully Boy won Best Film from India at Asain Academy creative Awards

Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer Gully Boy has not been shortlisted in the final list of International Feature Film category (formerly known as Foreign Language Film) for the 92nd Academy Awards, according to release on the website of The Academy. The film, directed by Zoya Akhtar and released earlier this year, was selected as India’s entry for the upcoming Academy Awards.

Gully Boy was one of the ninety one films that were sent for the Oscars. Only ten films could make it to the next round of voting. The Academy members selected the seven films while three additional selections were voted by the Academy’s International Feature Film Award Executive Committee.

The selected films are: The Painted Bird (Czech Republic), Truth and Justice (Estonia), Les Misérables (France), Those Who Remained (Hungary), Honeyland (North Macedonia), Corpus Christi (Poland), Beanpole (Russia), Atlantics (Senegal), Parasite (South Korea) and Pain and Glory (Spain).

Written by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, Gully Boy tells the story of a young man from the slums of Mumbai pursues his interest of rapping and earns a name for himself. Besides Ranveer and Alia, the film also features actors  Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Vijay Raaz in important roles. The film is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Zoya Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar under the banners of Tiger Baby and Excel Entertainment productions, with Nas as an executive producer.
