Harshvardhan Rane: I ran away from home when I was 16!

An Indian actor Harshvardhan Rane says that he ran away from his house when he was just 16 years old. He believes that success is sweeter when it follows a good struggle. He said that there was a time when even survival was a battle for him, but he was full of ambition to enter Bollywood town and because of that he even ran away from his home at the age of 16. He was born and brought up in Gwalior. After running from his home he landed into Delhi with a total of Rs 200 in his pocket.

Then after reaching Delhi he soon realized that his big dreams will not be going to fill his empty stomach and he could not able to related to the mindset of people in his hometown. He was not having any educational degree so he only got a menial job in Delhi. He was being hired by the PCO for just Rs 10 a day and his job was to maintain their call logs. After few days a Cyber Cafe owner hired him with a hike of Rs 20 per day.

Harsh says that the major drawback he was having at that time was that he does not know how to speak English. Later, he started watching English channels and then he used to repeat after the anchor because at that he could not afford to go for a coaching class due to the high fees. Later, he joined a call center where he has gone under the training, almost for a month and then he quit that job and he followed this same strategy with the other 15 BPO’s and with this he could earn money and can learn English at the same time. He has even assisted a DJ around that time and he got replaced when he fought with the club owner.

His Delhi stays ended quite unexpectedly and then the idea of being associated with the Bollywood prompted him to get into DVD distribution. Later, he got a similar offer from Mumbai and he got excited because he heard many stories about the people landing opportunities just like that. In 2006, he left for Mumbai along with his girlfriend, but he did not know that tougher times are awaited him in Mumbai. He got to know that he has to pay a deposit of Rs 55000 for a rent and accommodation so he put his girlfriend at a friend’s place and he returned to Delhi. After returning back to Delhi he worked for the two call centers simultaneously for a couple of months and then he headed back to Mumbai with a sufficient money and then he started staying on rent.

With time he got settle in Mumbai and he decided to pursue acting and he bagged a television show after his first audition. To improve his acting he has even joined an acting class. However, his wait to enter the Big screen continued. One day, he has gone to meet the producer and by mistake, he entered the wrong flat and there was a casting agency and they suggested him to audition for the Telegu movies and he agreed and he gave the audition and after a month he got a call from that producer by saying that he got confirmed for the role.

Interestingly it wasn’t easier for a newcomer to bag a positive role, but he was adamant. For the long three years he kept on rejecting the negative character and he took carpentry instead of doing a negative character. He used to refurbish old furniture and sell it. He also started painted a restaurant or two. Then suddenly in 2013, he started getting positive roles from South and later in 2015, he begged his first Bollywood movie ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’.

Harshvardhan Rane says that he has no regrets in his life. He has always followed his heart and he did not regret any decisions. However, he confesses that he is single from the last nine years and this is the only thing which he regrets in his life is that he has always let go of the girls that he connected with on an emotional level.
