A still from Newton

‘Unda’ and ‘Newton’ both are based on the Naxal environment of Chattishgarh state and an election is going to be conducted in such a place. Both films have two approaches one which is Idealistic and the other one being Realistic. The inference you draw from both the stories depend on your perspective. While Unda has a linear ending, Newton concludes as an open-ended story. The main protagonist of both the stories is an election officer and a team of armed police respectively. While the protagonists have an Idealistic approach, the other side represented by that of Army Officials has a realistic approach.

Both the films bound to show how the common people i.e the tribal section of the society gets trapped in between these two sides, they are the only ones left to suffer. Both the stories shed an emotional light on that story arc which makes the viewers aware of all the sides.

A still from Unda

For instance, Aatma Singh (Pankaj Tripathi) is perceived by the viewers in a negative way only until a short scene at the ending where he’s seen shopping at a mall with his family. Depicted that somewhere within hardened exterior lies a simple family man, with his own problems that somehow, in a twisted way, justified his frustration, and/or actions, against Newton Kumar. In a way both these films explain whether idealistic or realistic, both sides were good at heart that wanted to do good, in their own way. The world needs both types of people in order to make progress.
