Stories of rise and fall, in between lies love, pride, and understanding which are the crux of both these films. More than a story but equal to the experience that needs to be felt. ‘Abhimaan’ and ‘Aashiqui 2’both the films drive us into the world of glamour, making us live the life of the artists who are drowned between fame and their work. Soon, the storm of ego and pride clouds over their life. Well, this has been a part of the conflict in various movies including Rockstar too. But here, this is the main theme of these stories and the protagonists, Subir (Amitabh Bachchan) and Rahul (Aditya Roy Kapoor).

A still from Abhimaan and Aashiqui 2

Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s ‘Abhimaan,’ was uniquely fresh back in 1973, it starts off by giving us an overview of Subir Kumar’s life, who’s a renowned singer surrounded with a wave of his loved ones but as we get more into his life, we are made aware he stays all alone with his best friend Chandru, who also looks after his work. The main story begins as Subir gets impressed with Uma’s knowledge of music, he then urges her to take her lovely voice to the public. Soon, Uma’s popularity outshines Subir, and their marriage flatters. Aashiqui 2, being on similar lines is all about love, addiction, sacrifice, music most importantly.

There are tender moments in these films which make up for non-verbal conversations. Though both the films conclude in different ways altogether, there’s a lot to connect with each and every moment these stories share.
