Anshuman Jha and Zareen Khan starrer Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele has won the  Best Film Audience Choice Award at the HBO South Asian International Film Festival. The film was screened under the ‘Friday Night Premiere’ section at the festival on 22 November in New York. 

The story of the film revolves around two LGBTQ protagonists Veer and Mansi respectively played by Jha and Khan. The two elope from their respective weddings and end up being on a road trip together from Delhi to McLeod Ganj.

Expressing her joy about the response she received about playing Mansi Khan said, “I’m overwhelmed by the love our film has received by the people. I can’t wait for the world to watch this film and shower us with all their love.”

The film’s writer and director Harish Vyas revealed that several big names had refused the film because of its subject. He said, “I thank Anshuman for being the backbone of this film through development & shoot – and according to me giving his most nuanced performance since LSD.”

The screenplay of the film was also an Official Selection at the South Asian Film Market (SAFM) in Singapore as one of the ten best screenplays from Asia in November 2018. 

Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele is expected to be released next year on Valentine’s Day.
