Iranian cinema and its directors always have rich and compelling stories to tell. Directors such as Majid Majidi and Asghar Farhadi are two of the most revered Iranian directors in the world.

Among them, Majid Majidi’s next film, Sun Children has become Iran’s official entry for the 93rd Academy Awards Best International Feature Film category. Variety reported this news.

On the other hand, Asghar Farhadi’s two films, A Separation, and The Salesman have both won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film.

April 25, 2021, is the date when the 2021 Oscars is going to take place.

While at this year’s Venice International Film Festival, the film won acclaim and some major awards. Also known as The Sun, the film’s child actor Zamani won the Marcello Mastroianni Award at the festival. Majidi himself won the Lanterna Magica award.

Sun Children is about a group of kids who take admission to a charitable institution. There, the kids receive education for stealing an underground treasure.  It stars Ali Nassirian, Javad Ezzati, Tannaz Tabatabaei, Rouhollah Zamani among others.

Majid Majidi has written the film with Nima Javidi.

In 1998, another Javidi film, the iconic, Children Of Heaven was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Though the film failed to win the award.

Majidi is also famous for directing Beyond The Clouds (2017). The film was Ishaan Khatter’s debut and also starred Malavika Mohanan.

Now whether Majidi’s film wins the Oscar or not, he certainly is one director whose films leave a mark on the audience with their sensitivity, depth and touching subject.
