Filmmaker James Cameron feels that his film, Avatar, can still beat the box-office record of Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame, which stands tall as the highest grossing film of all time.

Cameron’s science fiction epic was released ten years ago and smashed all the box-office records at that time, including his own Titanic, and became the highest grossing film of all time with a net collection of $2.79 billion. The record was undisturbed for nearly a decade until 2019 when Avengers: Endgame minted $2.798 billion globally.

As per a report by USA Today, the Canadian filmmaker feels he can beat the superhero film’s record by re-releasing Avatar and rightfully take its place.

Cameron has four planned Avatar sequels in the pipeline, the first of which will hit the theaters on 17 December, 2021. The third, fourth and fifth installments are scheduled to release on 2023, 2025, 2027 respectively.

The Terminator director said that the sequel will be set in the underwater world of Pandora, with which he said he had “set the bar higher and higher.” “I don’t do it because it’s hard. We’re doing it because things that haven’t been done before are the most fresh.”

Cameron recently produced and co-wrote Terminator: Dark Fate which was the sixth installment in the franchise and was released on 1 November this year.
