2nd May is a date which will forever be engraved in the hearts of millennials who literally grew up with Harry Potter. 2nd May, 1998 was the day the legendary Battle of Hogwarts had taken place in this magical universe within the book series written by Joanne Rowling during the late 90s. This was the day more than 50 warriors had died fighting the antagonist of the book in the final battle. In honour of all these deaths, writer J. K. Rowling uploads a tweet on her personal Twitter every year as she issues an apology for any one death she had written during the infamous battle.

This year, with the hashtag of #BattleofHogwarts, the authoress apologizes to her followers sincerely for the death of the supporting character ‘Dobby’. Dobby was a creature belonging to the species of the House Elves in the book series. His death, even though did not occur at the sight of the battle itself, has been the cause for much sadness and many tears shed by the fans.

J.K. Rowling has previously apologized for the deaths of other characters like Severus Snape, Remus Lupin, and Fred Weasley during the previous anniversaries of this battle. The fans have always regarded this day as an important one as every Potterhead gathers together to mourn for one death, initiated by the indirect killer herself. They have always expected the beloved house elf’s death to be apologized for within the first half of the 50 years Rowling is required to continue this for; and on the 20th anniversary, they finally mourn.
