2014 was not a good year for John Wick. His car was stolen and his puppy, the last remaining gift from his deceased wife was killed. The thieves who did this faced his wrath and we got to see a brilliant action entertainer in theatres.
This was the premise of the first film in the John Wick film series. Keanu Reeves showed his ferocious avatar as an assassin with the film, which not only impressed critics and fans but proved to be a money-spinner for Lionsgate.
A fifth part in the series is now announced, which will be shot back-to-back with the fourth installment. This announcement was made by Lionsgate CEO, Jon Feltheimer in an analyst call.
‘The Hollywood Reporter’ further quoted Feltheimer saying :
“We’re also busy preparing scripts for the next two installments of our John Wick action franchise, with John Wick 4 slated to hit theaters Memorial Day weekend 2022. We hope to shoot both John Wick 4 and 5 back-to-back when Keanu becomes available early next year.”
After the success of the first film, two more films have released from the franchise– John Wick: Chapter 2 and John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum. Both the sequels have earned huge money too and widespread critical acclaim.
The fourth part from the series was set to come out on 21 May 2021 but due to the coronavirus, will now release on 27 May 2022.
Chad Stahelski has helmed all three parts of the series and is expected to do the same going forward.
Meanwhile, Keanu Reeves is currently busy with ‘Matrix 4’s’ shooting in Berlin. The shoot was earlier halted because of the pandemic.
