This is not a great period for Hollywood star Johnny Depp. He knows this and which is why on Friday he resigned from the Fantastic Beasts film franchise. He did this after losing his long-drawn libel case against a British Tabloid which called him ‘a wife-beater’.

The Hollywood star shared this in a note on Instagram. He revealed that AT&T’s Inc’s Warner Bros movie studio asked him to leave his role as the villain, Gellert Grindelwald. This Depo wrote that he respected and has obliged.

A separate statement from Warner Bros read that Johnny Depp will leave his role as Grindelwald, which the studio will recast soon.

In the role of Grindelwald Depp appeared in the first Fantastic Beasts film, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them in 2016. Two years later he reprised the role in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald.

The third film in the franchise is expected to release in 2022. It recently resumed its production as per Warner Bros.

While Johnny Depp wrote on his Instagram post that he plans to appeal against the judgment in the London Libel Trial. In his note, he wrote, “My life and career will not be defined by this moment in time.”
