Kalank is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language period drama film directed by Abhishek Varman and produced by Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala and Fox Star Studios. This film is Karan Johar’s and Abhishek Varman’s ambitious project. It stars Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles. The film was conceptualized by Karan Johar and his father Yash Johar around fifteen years ago. The period drama film is set against the partition and Indian independence struggle in the 1940s. Actress Sridevi was initially signed for the character role played by Madhuri Dixit.

The film’s shoot began in April 2018 and has been suffering from one problem or the other since the beginning of shooting. Varun and Alia suffered injuries in the first leg of shooting, Aditya Roy Kapur, who joined the team later, got injured during the second schedule. And yesterday, The film’s set erected in Mumbai’s Chitrakoot Grounds has suffered damage due to heavy rains. A part of the set collapsed on Wednesday and that forced the team to stop shooting. It’s a big loss for the makers considering Kalank boasts of expensive sets, in fact the first set of the film cost Rs 15 crore.

A source close to the film told Filmfare that the shooting won’t start before 15 days. “The team was to shoot a 20-day schedule starting July 31. Now, the shoot is postponed for at least two weeks as dates for all the cast members who have scenes together had to be reworked. The makers have decided to wait for the rains to let up before resuming shoot,” said the source.

The film is expected to hit the screens on April 19, 2019.
