It was being long speculated how would actor Kangana Ranaut fit in the role of yesteryears actor turned eminent politician Jayalalithaa also fondly known as amma. The answer came on Saturday with the teaser relaease of Thalaivi. And not to mention, it didn’t go well with amma’s fans.
Helmed by critically acclaimed Tamil director A L Vijay Thalaivi, revolves around the life of Jayalalithaa. The first half of the teaser gives us a glimpse into Jaylalithaa’s acting career and introduces her as ‘a superstar heroine.’ The Manikarnika actor surely takes us back to Jaylalithaa’s era and seems to do a fair job acing the dance moves and expressions.
But haven’t we seen it before? Be it Tanu weds Manu (1 & 2) or Queen uptill her last release Judgemental Hai Kya the audience is familiar with the fun-loving roles of Kangana and loved her for it.
The attention grabbing second part of the video introduces her as ‘A Revolutionary Hero.’ The actor here is seen addressing the crowd as Jayalalithaa.
Here what works for us is the attention to small details like her wave to the audience, mid parted hair, bindi and the resting smile though too resting because of the prosthetic. But what we missed is lines of ageing, the wrinkles, and the fire in the eyes that denotes the wisdom of the life amma lived.
Let’s just hope Kangana has a power packed performance to make up for what proesthetics lack!
