Filmmaker Karan Johar says that we should stop segregating cinema into regions and we should stop projecting, promoting and platforming Indian cinema. Karan feels that it is the time to break the regional barriers and it is the time to bring all the Indian movie under one roof.

He believes that the Bollywood is a term that we have learned to live with and he feels that it is disheartening that we have to keep using the world because that is our identity. However, he feels that they are not the poor cousin of any industry he says that they are a tall industry of their own and they have made some spectacular movies in the industry.

He described the movie ‘Bahubaali’ as the first real crossover movie and the movie has crossed all the corners of the country to the extent and they have never seen such movie in the past. He said that the movie Bahubaali is an extraordinary movie which features actors like actors Prabhas, Rana, Tamanna and all the entire crew. The actors were not known before 2015 that after this movie they all will become future stars.

The makers of the movie said that the movie was having a bigger than all the stars and moreover he believes that the script and budget of the movie were the most important than any superstar or any megastar. He says that in Hollywood the star system died 10 years ago and now even Bollywood is heading towards the same phenomenon.

Karan Johar’s movie ‘My Name Is Khan’ is almost gone beyond the NRI market so that the movie can reach to the non-Indian audience as well and Karan sais that this was possible only because the movie was about the misinterpretation of a global religion which resonated deeply with many countries beyond the Indian diaspora market. He wants us to just strengthen our domestic industry before looking into anywhere else. There may not be another ‘My Name Is Khan’ and feels that there is no need to go to other markets.

However, he believes that the Indian cinema is a beast of its own and it just not likes that you sell off the counter or any other product this country sells. Now we have become the victim of the beast and if you don’t love that beast you don’t owe that beast and you don’t just completely and passionately be absorbed by that. So he says that we should all try not to sell it.

The makers of the movie said that if someone is from the academic professional and he is well educated in the business and marketing so it does not mean that he can market and sell a Hindi Or Indian movie because he feels that it is totally a different ballgame and it totally operates from a different space because we all are an unconventional and a diverse audience.

Karan Johar says that the movie business is generally based on the faith and trust and with this he recalled that he had earlier sent a one-page contract to Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan to get them on board while they are many young educated MBA professionals in the Bollywood industry and they are sending 80-page contracts to the actors. However he believes that the industry will be having a golden period in just another 10 years, but he feels that currently, the Bollywood industry is going through a dark tunnel.

On the work front. Karan Johar will be co-producing the upcoming movie titled ‘Raazi’, which will be directed by Meghna Gulzar. The movie features Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal in the lead role. The shooting for the movie has already started.
