Films are meant for theatres and though the Coronavirus pandemic have forced them to shut down, one man is in no hurry to release his film. We are talking about director, Karthik Subbaraj. His film, starring Dhanush, Jagame Thandiram was going to release this year in May. The Coronavirus pandemic came and delayed its release.

The director though is in no hurry to release the film on an OTT platform and is content to wait for theatres to open up. Karthik is hopeful that people will go back to theatres, once they are open and said

“I would be among the first ones who will throng theaters as soon as they open.”

In the ongoing debate around OTT platform vs Theatres, he is of the opinion that both of the platforms can coexist peacefully. According to him, there is no substitute for watching films in a theatre, while the OTT platforms can be a game changer for small budget films. He outlined the importance of both the platforms.

On the other hand, he and his upcoming film’s producer, Vivek Harshan of Y Not Studios are not going to release Jagame Thandiram on any OTT platform. Talking about it he said:

“At this point, the producer has no idea about giving the movie to an OTT platform. Things have to come back to normal at some point. It cannot go on like this. After that, we will release the film,”

Earlier he had tweeted how the film would have released in theatres on May 1 had it not been for the Coronavirus. Bridled with optimism though, Karthik is waiting for things to back to normal even though the situation looks grim in Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, ‘Penguin’ which is produced by him is set to premiere on Amazon Prime this Friday.
