Putting rest to various rumors about the lead actress opposite Akshay Kumar in ‘Sooryavanshi‘, the makers have finally made an official announcement. Katrina Kaif has been roped in to play the lead role in Rohit Shetty’s cop drama.
Karan Johar shared a group picture with Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, and Rohit Shetty and captioned it, “Welcome to our COP UNIVERSE @katrinakaif …OUR SOORYAVANSHI GIRL!”
Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the news on Twitter and wrote, “IT’S OFFICIAL… Katrina Kaif in #Sooryavanshi… Akshay Kumar and Katrina – who delivered several hits – team up after a long gap… #Sooryavanshi marks Katrina’s first collaboration with director Rohit Shetty.”

As per the reports, it was Akshay Kumar who convinced Rohit Shetty to consider Katrina for the lead actress. While Rohit had some other name in his mind for the leading actress role in ‘Sooryavanshi’.
The film is the fourth film of Rohit Shetty’s cop universe and is slated to release on Eid next year. The franchise started with Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Singham’ series, followed by Ranveer Singh’s ‘Simmba’, which was the last blockbuster of 2018.
This is the first collaboration of Katrina and Rohit, while Akshay has done several hit films with Katrina. Akshay and Katrina once were considered Bollywood’s hit Jodi as the duo had delivered several hits together in the past. The hit duo last shared the screen for 2010 film ‘Tees Maar Khan’ which didn’t fare well at the box office. However, the wait for the hit Jodi’s fans is over with their upcoming film ‘Sooryavanshi’.
