Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Kesari‘ completed its first day in theatres and emerged as the highest opener of the year and Akshay Kumar’s second highest opener after ‘Gold’. The film earned ₹21.50 crores gross on its very first day and lived up to the high expectations of trade pandits.

Movie critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the box office figures of the film on Twitter and wrote, “#Kesari roars… Sets the BO on… Emerges the biggest opener of 2019 [so far]… After limited shows in morning/noon [#Holi festivities], the biz witnessed massive growth from 3 pm/4 pm onwards… Evening shows saw terrific occupancy… Thu ₹ 21.50 cr. India biz.”

Taran tweeted about the top four openers of the year 2019 with Kesari on the top, ‘GullyBoy’ second, ‘Total Dhamaal’ on third and Hollywood film ‘Captain Marvel’ being the fourth on the list.

Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Kesari’ narrates the story of the bravest battle ever fought in the history of world Battle of Saragarhi. It explores the story of Havildar Ishar Singh who participated in the Battle. The Battle of Saragarhi which was fought on 12 September 1897, is known as the bravest battle ever fought because it witnessed an army of 21 Sikhs soldiers of the British Indian Army against 10,000 Afghans.

The 36th Sikhs was an infantry regiment comprising only 21 Sikh soldiers. The regiment is now known as the 4th battalion of the Sikh Regiment. They were stationed at an army post and were attacked by around 10,000 Pashtun Orakzai tribesmen. It occurred in the North-West Frontier Province, now called Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan.
