The Amphan cyclone has been devastating for the state of West Bengal. It has caused severe damage to the infrastructure and human lives in the state and has left an indelible impact. Environment has suffered a huge loss too, with trees uprooted. To help the state in this difficult time Shahrukh khan’s IPL franchise ‘Kolkata Knight Riders ‘ have pledged to plant trees. They have announced to plant about 5000 trees and are also going to contribute to the West Bengal chief minister’s relief fund.
The never before seen cyclone claimed 86 lives and affected people in lakhs. On May 20, the cyclone wrecked havoc in the state and since then there is no signs of it stopping down. Compound it with the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the situation for the state looks more bleak. In this tough times for the state, KKR stepping up to help the state is a blessing for them.
Owner of the franchise “Shahrukh Khan” gave a message to the public stating “We must stay strong through these testing times until we can smile together again,”. Further KKR released an official statement of their own which read “KKR has committed to contribute to the cause. Under KKR’s Plant A 6 initiative, we pledge to work with the authorities and plant 5000 trees in the Kolkata.”
Four areas have been most affected by the Amphan cyclone, they are Kolkata, North and South 24 Pargans and East Medinipur. KKR have also pledged to help the people of these four areas, essential services and hygiene products will be supplied to them so that they can take care of themselves and tide over this difficult time period. Shahrukh khan has been a leading donator in the fight against Coronavirus.
Shahrukh stepped up to donate around 25,000 PPE kits to healthcare workers in Maharashtra, funds to the PM cares and also to the Maharashtra CM’s relief fund. He also became a part of Lady Gaga’s virtual concert ‘One World: Together at home’ to provide support to the healthcare workers in the world. His charity seems to haven no bounds as he also transformed his office premises into a quarantine centre in April.
Clearly with Shahrukh and KKR stepping up to support West Bengal, a little relief for the state will finally arrive amidst these turbulent times.
