Actor Avinash Tiwary who rose to prominence with the lead role in Imtiaz Ali’s 2018 Laila Majnu has been roped in to play a pivotal role in Farhan Akhtar’s web series, according to a report in Mid Day.

Earlier this year, Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment announced to adapt S Hussain Zaidi’s book Dongri To Dubai into a web series. Now, the buzz is that Tiwary would portray Dawood Ibrahim in the series. Ibrahim is a Mumbai underworld, criminal mobster and drug dealer most wanted by India with a heavy reward over his head, and has been wanted since 1994.

A source told the daily that the casting has begun for the show and “the makers think Avinash [Tiwary] fits the role of Dawood [Ibrahim] perfectly. The series will trace Dawood’s journey and they needed a young actor who could showcase that [growing up phase].”

The source also revealed that the actor would undergo thorough preparation including a physical transformation to look the part.

The story traces the rise and fall of underworld dons in a three-part series of 10 episodes each, writing for which is underway. The series is expected to go on the floors early next year.

Meanwhile, Avinash Tiwary is gearing up for Parineeti Chopra starrer Hindi adaptation of 2016 American film The Girl On The Train which in turn was based on British author Paula Hawkins’ 2015 novel of the same name.
