“Lipstick Under My Burkha” is an upcoming Indian film made in Hindi, which is directed by Alankrita Shrivastava and produced by Prakash Jha. The movie features Ratna Pathak Shah, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aahana Kumra in the lead along with Sushant Singh and Vikram Massey.
In January 2017, the Central Board of Film Certification refused to certify the film, for being “lady oriented”, and for having “sexual scenes, abusive words, audio pornography and a bit sensitive touch about one particular section of society”. But, after a long fight with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), finally, Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) cleared the film for a release with a few cuts.
Then On June 19, Filmmakers released their new poster with a woman raising her middle finger and made an extremely strong statement. On this Central Board of Film Certification Chief Pahlaj Nihalani said, “Showing the middle finger is impolite in any society. And it should be discouraged.” Slamming film associations for clearing the poster, he said, “Maybe…they’re playing the pseudo-liberal card to appear fashionable.”
Now, the team of “Lipstick Under My Burkha” has come up with a campaign which urges everyone to pose with a lipstick as the middle finger for their campaign #LipstickRebellion, and a lot of women are supporting them. Many celebrities have posted pictures to support the #Lipstickrebellion campaign.
Ekta Kapoor’s ALT Balaji and Balaji Motion Pictures have come on board as distributors are really going big with the promotions. They have called out for women to strike a pose with a lipstick to express themselves without inhibitions.
