Making a documentary film is quite a difficult task because here you are not interacting with actors, it’s about talking to real people and describing the true events. India is a nation that was known for its unity and Ayodhya was one great example where Hindu and Muslims lived in peace and harmony. People from both these communities were like a family to each other but now all we can see is hatred and the reason behind which is the political propaganda and some anti-social elements which disrupted the peace and created tensions across the nation in the name of God. This film will make us question our existence and the ideals of Gods and you will be left with an answer that this is definitely not something God would want. Directed by Anand Patwardhan, this national award-winning film is a must-watch.

Children of the Pyre

Directed by Rajesh Sala, this film highlights the journey of seven children and their struggles working in India’s busiest cremation grounds Manikarnika, on the banks of Ganga. It documented the working of surroundings as well as the candid interviews of these seven children working hard to earn daily bread. The film was appreciated in various international film festivals and was also awarded a National Award.

Jai Bhim Comrade

Another political commentary by Anand Patwardhan was shot for nearly eleven years. It explored the longings of Indian Judiciary, the roots of the Indian caste system, and stories of injustice across the city of Mumbai. The film’s main theme however was that every political party is the same, with false promises they just fool innocent citizens. It starts off with a 1997 conspiracy police shootout and takes viewers on a deep journey of exploring various themes prevailing in one of the biggest democracies across the world. Another National Award-winning film that should be on your watchlist.
