not politicians, 'let CBFC do its job' of passing film!

Senior BJP leader LK Advani is one of the few voices that are in the support of the upcoming movie ‘Padmavati‘ and along with the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The controversy which has surrounded the upcoming Indian period drama movie titled ‘Padmavati’ thickens.

On November 30, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) ministry were called into a meeting along with the director of the movie Sanjay Leela Bhansali by the parliamentary standing committee on the information technology during a meeting so that they can set to resolve the controversy which is going to the movie.

There one of the panelists LK Advani come in support of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali however, he was being grilled by the other panelists. He said that the proceedings of the panel are completely pointless and he feels that instead, it should only be the onus of the Central Board of the Film Certification just to decide whether or not the movie is suitable for the release in India or not.

Moreover, he says that let the Central Board should do its job. One of the members of the panel said that the Advani said to the chairperson that the panel already has enough on its plate and should not take up the issues which are unrelated.

The panel which also comprises of the members like Hema Malini (BJP), Raj Babbar (Congress) and Paresh Rawal (BJP) and they are reportedly taking the considerations of all the opinions which are coming from the various parties and will then states its opinion on the release of the upcoming movie and other movies which falls in the same category (historical genre). The committee took a close look at this matter which is going to the movie ‘Padmavati’  as part of its study.

The major contention around the movie ‘Padmavati’ and especially by the CBFC and there are few more parliaments and the movie was screened to the audience before it even got certified. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali explained that the movie has been just shown to the eight-person which includes two of the media personalities and one his close friend. However, they have now assured that the movie will not be screened elsewhere until it gets the certificate by the censor board.

Prasoon Joshi, the chief of the Central Board of Film Certification informed the panel that the experts have been set up to scrutinize the movie’s content before it is given a certification and this whole process will take some time. The panel has decided to give two weeks to the director before deciding whether he would be called for the next hearing or not.

The chairman of the Lok Sabha, Bhagat Singh Koshiyari said that the two MPs had given the petitions before to them and they are even having the details views of the government and the Central Board of Film Certification. However, the secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has deposed before them. The date for the next meeting has not been decided yet but the hearing related to this matter is going on.

About the movie, ‘Padmavati’ is based on the life and on the 13-century Rajput queen Rani Padmini of Chittorgarh and she decided to do a self-immolation over falling prey to the evil clutches of the foreign invaders and the ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, Alauddin Khilji. Many times he has agreed on the numerous occasions that his upcoming movie is just a work of a fiction and it is totally based on the epic poem, titled ‘Padmavat’, which was written by the Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi in 1540.

The movie ‘Padmavati’ is an upcoming Indian period drama. The movie which is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and jointly produced by Bhansali and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. The movie features Deepika Padukone in the title role as Rani Padmini, alongside Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji,  Shahid Kapoor as MaharajaRawal Ratan Singh, apart from them, we will also see actors like Jim Sarbh and Aditi Rao Hydari also in the movie.
