A still from Ludo

When a film has multiple characters and their stories are to be portrayed in a time span of 2 hours, it is a task for a director to keep the viewers hooked till the last minute. But Anurag Basu has proved to be the master in this craft as he delivers Ludo in a style that makes it an entertaining as well as an engaging watch. The multi-starrer that released on Netflix a couple of days ago is filled with great performances and is a perfect blend of cinematic elements including thrill and entertainment.

The universe of Ludo’s characters consists of local mob leader Sattu Bhaiyya (Pankaj Tripathi), and his former partner Bittoo (Abhishek Bachchan). Struggling stand-up comedian Akash (Aditya Roy Kapoor), and Shruti (Sanya Malhotra). Mithun fan Alok urf Aloo (Rajkummar Rao), and the love of his life, Pinky (Fatima Sana Shaikh). Small-town fella Rahul (Rohit Saraf), and nurse Sreeja (Maaney).

The frame opens with two people on a stand by, one of them played by Basu himself, to kill time they start playing and their conversation about philosophy and life begins as the characters are introduced one by one. And their personal stories which are interesting and later one all get weaved in the plot together. The story is filled with twists and turns, making the frames full of entertainment and thrill. The dialogues and screenplay are on point too, creating the mood for viewers.

Basu’s magic to give away the philosophy of life in the most interesting manner is the lifeline of Ludo. The element of suspense is maintained throughout the story and it keeps you really hooked till the last frame. The two characters at the opening scene are actually….well not revealing anything but this is just to say that the unexpected things come to you as the story is near its end. Which is to say that even minute parts of the film are detailed carefully.

Overall, Ludo is a treat for the audience in this season of Diwali. A laughter ride filled with a cinematic experience. Don’t miss out on watching this.
