It has been a decade since the time Kaminey was released. The film marked the first collaboration of actor Shahid Kapoor and filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj. Shahid who was till then looked at as a romantic chocolate hero presented a totally different side of him and won wide acclaim for his performance in the film.
Kaminey was a landmark film in Shahid’s career and gave a direction to his journey in Bollywood while opening avenues for different kinds of roles. The fans would be elated to know that we might see Shahid again reprising his role from the film in its sequel.
The Deccan Chronicle reports that Vishal Bharadwaj’s plan to make Midnight’s Children for an OTT platform has taken a back seat and instead he is planning to make sequel of one of his films. And that film is none other than Kaminey.
The daily quotes a source as saying, “Vishal has a script idea for a film which could take the franchise ahead and it is called Maha Kaminey. He recently applied for the title with the Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association. Shahid played the roles of Guddu and Charlie in the original film, and he will be continuing to reprise that role in case Vishal and he decide to work together again after Shahid wraps Jersey.”
Shahid played the role of estranged twins Guddu and Charlie, one who lisps and the other who stammers. The film ended with Sweety, played by Priyanka Chopra, giving birth to Guddu’s twins.
Talking about the importance of twins characters, the source said, “The film did have an open ending with the birth of the twins and that option is now being explored. Kaminey also had some brilliant songs and the idea of a franchise has excited everyone who was in the first part.”
Meanwhile on the work front, Shahid Kapoor was last seen in blockbuster Kabir Singh. He had recently started the preparation for his role in his next film which is the remake of South hit Jersey.
