The business of drive-in theatres in USA are on an upsurge ever since the pandemic engulfed the world. As theatres and multiplexes are shut down since March, drive-ins have played the role of savior for the audience. To endure that the people don’t miss summer blockbusters, many classic films are arriving in drive-ins, this year.

Films such as Black Panther, Back To The Future and Jaws are some of the names coming to the drive-in theatres. The films will run on weekends from July 2 to August 2 in cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Dallas and Atlanta among others. This news was confirmed by Tribeca Enterprises, IMAX, AT&T on Monday.

Films will be presented in themes such as kids’ favorites (Inside Out and The Lego Movie), James Bond (Goldfinger and Casino Royale) and high school (Mean Girls and Superbad).

While, the daytime will showcase kids films, evenings will screen mature and dark content films. On the other hand, 4th July will witness the screening of cult films such as Apollo 13, Field Of Dreams and The Wizard of Oz.

Apart from the above mentioned films, The Dark Knight, Beetlejuice, Big Adventure and Do The Right Thing will also screen. Tribeca, which was founded in 2001 by Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal had always focussed on Drive-ins since its establishment.

In an interview, Tribeca’s CCO Paula Weinstein talked about the company’s decision and said –

“This is an alternative to bring people together to remind them, even if you’re six feet apart in a car, how great the collective experience is watching movies together.”

Tickets for essential workers are free. Some amount will be donated towards Black lives Matter Movement. Not limiting its scope to films, the drive-ins will also hold live stand up comedy and NFL events.
