Indian epic biographical period drama ‘Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi‘ completed its first week in theatres on Thursday and in spite of controversies between the directors of the film Kangana Ranaut and Krish, it is doing well at the box office. The film was released in three Indian languages, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

The film started slow, with ₹8.75 crores earning on its opening day. But the second day witnessed a huge growth of 125-130% and the collection was in double digits, as it earned ₹18 crores net. First National holiday of the year turned out to be a blessing for the film.

Kangana Ranaut had a terrific first Monday and managed to collect ₹5.10 crores in all versions. It did a business of ₹4.50 crores on Tuesday and ₹4.25 crores on Wednesday. Thursday witnessed a slight drop and earned ₹4.25 crores. The film’s total business has reached up to ₹61.15 crores.

The Hindi version of the film managed to collect ₹40 crores net over its first weekend. The Hindi version of the film collected ₹7.75 crores net on its opening day, ₹17.75 crores net on the second day and ₹14.75 crores on its third day.

Till now ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ the highest first weekend collections for a female-driven film with ₹37.50 crore net, but now ‘Manikarnika’ has surpassed its first week earning. Interestingly both featured Kangana as the female lead.

The filmmakers including co-director Kangana have revived Manu’s (short for Manikarnika) story from the Ganga Ghats of Banaras to Jhansi, very effectively. One can not take his eyes off the powerful Kangana, who plays her part with so much ease.

The film has the best-supporting actors any film could ever have, viz, Jisshu Sengupta, Atul Kulkarni (Tantya Tope), Mohammed Zeeshan AyyubAnkita Lokhande, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Danny Denzongpa (Ghaus baba), and Richard Keep.
