Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota‘ is an action-comedy featuring debutant Abhimanyu Dassani, Radhika Madan, Mahesh Manjrekar, and Gulshan Devaiah in important roles. The film pays tribute to the action films from pasts, drenched in Bollywood masala and witty narration that keeps the movie engaging.

Surya (Abhimanyu Dassani) has a rare disorder. He is suffering from a congenital disorder that prevents him from feeling any pain. He is a misfit, who later grows up to believe that he is a karate man. In the movie, Mahesh Majrekar is Surya’s grandfather who tells him that every time he bleeds, he needs to say ‘ouch. Our hero has whole-heartedly used the ouch, every time he is being attacked by school bullies or goons.

In the movie, the leads father is paranoid and worried about him, on the other hand, his grandfather encourages him to learn martial arts. Vasan Bala has created a mad and insanely entertaining film which features both parodies of action/superhero films and reverses them in equal proportion. Bala’s randomness evokes laughter and causes amusement. The film also gives you a taste of action in super slow motion, with smartly executed stunts. ‘Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota’ is a new take on superhero films where the comedy doesn’t risk the film’s action sequences.

The female lead in the film is portrayed by Radhika Madan as Supri, who is Surya’s best friends and childhood crush, has an outstanding entry scene. Supri as a female lead saves Surya from the school bullies and later from the goons. Her character overturns gender stereotypes smoothly. On the other hand, Gulshan has essayed the cliched double role in the film fabulously and his character is a delight to watch. The only problem in the movie seems a little stretchy and stagnant at points.

‘Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota’ is a perfect Holi gift, where Bala pays tribute to old school action films with a tinge of comedy.
