With all the buzz around its release, Sidharth Malhotra, Riteish Deshmukh, Tara Sutaria, and Rakul Preet Singh starrer Marjaavaan did well on its first day. Released on 15th November, the film opened to good numbers especially in smaller multiplexes and single screens.

According to a report on Box Office India, the film collected around Rs 6.50 to Rs 7 crore on its opening day. The film scored well in Maharashtra, Gujarat, UP, and Bihar though collections in the metros were low. The bigger multiplex chains have not been able to register good figures but smaller multiplexes and single screens have done well especially in mass circuits.

Saturday’s business will be crucial for the film as a huge ratio of collections are coming from mass centers which do not grow on Saturday. Still the film could be strong on Sunday when these places tend to do well.

The big metros multiplexes have shown low numbers and there is huge potential for these to grow on Saturday but potential does not mean they will substantially grow as the content of the film does not seem very suitable for metro audience.

The music of the film has been well received by the audience. The people are enjoying the songs especially Ek Toh Kam Zindagani featuring Nora Fatehi which has crossed millions of views on YouTube. Haiya Ho featuring Rakul Preet has also been doing very well. However, both the songs are recreated versions of old songs from 1980s films Janbaaz and Dayavan. The original songs Tum Hi Aana and Thodi Jagah  have become everyone’s favourite numbers.

Coming back to Marjaavaan, the movie is a powerful mass action love story with the highlight being the battle between Sidharth and Riteish’s character. While Riteish plays a dwarf villain, Sidharth plays a lover boy. The co-producer Bhushan Kumar described the film as “a violent, dramatic love story”.

Written and directed by Milap Zaveri, Marjaavaan is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Divya Khosla Kumar, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani, Nikkhil Advani.
