Riteish Deshmukh is currently riding high on the success of his latest film Housefull 4 which is inching towards Rs 200 crore despite critical reviews. The actor is gearing up for his next release Marjaavaan where he is playing a dwarf gangster.

While the actor has played quite a variety of roles in the past including negative character in Ek Villain, this is the first time he will be seen essaying the role of a vertically challenged person. He recently opened up about the character and his psyche.

While speaking to Zoom about his character, Riteish revealed that he is a dwarf for the people but for himself he is a powerful person. “One needs to understand that though I am playing a vertically challenged person whose height is about three feet but he is larger than life. He doesn’t think that he is three feet tall. In his mind he thinks rest of the characters are of three feet and he is six feet. This is his attitude and swag,” he said.

The actor also admitted that with the advancement in technology it has become much easier to pull off such characters. He gave the example of Kamal Hassan’s Appu Raja while revealing that he did not have do anything extraordinary on physical level.

“We live in times where technology really helps you achieve a lot of unbelievable stuff. Hats off to Kamal Hassan Sir when he did Appu Raja what kind of struggle he must have gone through to achieve whatever he has achieved. But in today’s day and time when I had to perform this role I never thought of myself as a vertically challenged person who is dwarfed in front of someone else. I was walking as I walk in regular life with this kind of attitude. That was my approach to the film and I hope that comes across when you watch it,” he said.

Directed by Milaap Zaveri, Marjaavaan also stars Sidharth Malhotra, Tara Sutaria, and Rakul Preet. The film is slated to release on 15 November.
