Martin Scorsese’s epic crime drama The Irishman has seen a very sizable number of viewers on its first five days of release on the streaming platform Netflix.

According to Nielsen data, the film had a traffic of 13.16 million viewers from 27 November to 1 December. Each day had an average audience between 2.15 million (1 December) and 3.14 million viewers (29 November), as it was reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The three and a half hour long film saw a total of 17.1 million unique viewers, who saw some bits of it and not the whole film. Based on the book I Heard You Paint Houses, the film stars Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. 

As per the rating service, the Scorsese directorial venture was most popular among the age group of 50 and above, with people from 50 to 64 making up to 20 percent of the audience on the day of its premiere and 15 percent of the five day run. 

Nielsen’s rating are based on Television viewing only in the United States and are not the total audience of Netflix. 

The Irishman has had a large number of five day audience than the Breaking Bad film El Camino, which had 8.2 million viewers. 

The film was watched in its entirety by over 18 percent of the audience, despite it being a long and deliberately paced story.
