Kevin Fiege, the president of Marvel Studios did not intend to confirm that a transgender character will be introduced in the future film from Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), as per a report by Variety

In December, Fiege was participating in a guest lecture series for the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. There, he was asked if the studio has plans to introduce characters from the LGBTQ community in the MCU. “Yes, absolutely, yes,” Feige had said. “And very soon. In a movie that we’re shooting right now.”

This statement might have given hopes to the audiences who were looking for the representation of the sexual minorities in the blockbuster franchise. However, it turns out that Feige only intended to respond to the first part about LGBTQ characters. He did not mean to imply that such a character will be coming to the MCU anytime soon.

Eternals, directed by Chloe Zhao, is Marvel’s next film in production which will have the MCU’s first major homosexual character.

Recently, the debate over LGBTQ representation in Hollywood big budget films sparked after a same-sex kiss scene was featured in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It earned the makers both praise and criticism since it was between two minor characters in a blink-and-miss moment.
