Taking shots at those in power and calling them out for feeling superior to others is a brave thing. Few comedians or artists have done it successfully and one of them died yesterday. I am talking about comedian Héctor Suárez, who passed away on 2 June.

The Mexican was popular for his satire on the rich and arrogant. He worked in over 100 films in a career that spanned for 60 years. Not known to be afraid from making fun of controversial subjects, he made a name for himself through his satire acts.

The news of his passing away reached on Instagram when his son Héctor Suárez Gomís posted a statement. The reason for his death is not specified though.

Starting his career in the 70s, he made his name in the 70s and 80s for his social commentary and views against the government at a time when it was deemed impossible to do so. He also starred in films and tv tv shows such as El Miusos and Qué Nos Pasa. He was born on October 21, 1938, in Mexico City.

On his demise, the Mexican Culture Department issued a statement for his respect and called him a ‘pioneer’. He leaves his wife and four children behind him and the vast contributions he made towards the cultural development of Mexico.
