Mirzapur 2: The noise of ‘Hype’ and the ‘Base’ of Season 3

A still from Mirzapur

It was after ‘Sacred Games’ that the viewers completely dived into the world of web shows and binge-watching a complete season became their priority. The release of Sacred Games created a massive boom in the market and the viewers were immediately demanding for the next season, and soon it became a trend. This was a whole new challenge and also a new beginning for the long time collaboration between the filmmakers and the digital platforms. Though there were a couple of shows prior to Sacred Games including Inside Edge and Breathe the hype and popularity of Vikramaditya Motwayne and Anurag Kashyap’s directorial was creating a new wave.

And we witnessed the same hype post the release of Mirzapur which too came with an ensemble cast including Ali Fazal, Vikrant Massey, Pankaj Tripathi, Rasika Dugal, Divyendu Sharma, Shweta Tripathi, and Shriya Pilgaonkar. Viewers soon binge-watched and began to admire Mirzapur’s storyline. The demand for season 2 went throughout these two years. And it was just a week before that the second season was released.

Though the second season is receiving mixed reviews from the audience and the critics, here’s decoding the major hype it created prior to the release and how it has set up a base for the much engrossing season 3 of the show. Well, everything as of now is just an assumption but might be a truth as well.

Compared to all the web shows that have released so far, the hype of Mirzapur 2 was at a greater extent and hence viewers were expecting a lot of entertainment and feuds between the two parties that the first season created. While some viewers are upset due to their expectations, some believe that it has created a perfect base for the massive load of story in season 3 which also goes as the season 2 has created a universe of new interesting characters which will take over in the season 3 giving us a complete and an engaging conclusion.

Season 2 is a bit slow and focuses mainly on the development of characters in detail as it highlights their psychology in this journey of killings and the world of power and throne. The series is not quick but it slowly initiates different story arcs introducing new characters in the plot and some old characters who have changed their perspectives. Season 2 seems to be a build-up for the much bigger and welcoming season 3 which will bring all these characters together in different frames.

Well, as of now nothing is confirmed but this seems to be an interesting point made by many viewers and what we too have learned after watching season 2. This might be the truth too, who knows? But we are waiting.
