Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has roped in National Award-winning stunt choreographers Anbumani and Arivumani (together known as ‘Anbariv’) for his upcoming directorial film Mumbai Saga. The duo has directed action scenes in a number of South Indian films such as Madras, Kabali, Singam 3 and others.

Anbumani and Arivumani won the National Film Award for Best Stunt Choreographer in 2019 for their work in 2018 Kannada film K.G.F: Chapter 1. In fact, KGF is the film that was instrumental in getting them on board for Mumbai Saga. Gupta told the news daily that he hired the duo after watching their work in K.G.F: Chapter 1. “I liked the way action was executed in it. Bhushan (Kumar) was also keen that we have the best team on board,” he said.

He further added that he wanted to keep the action sequences believable. “It’s not about the hero hitting the villain and the latter doing 20 somersaults as a result. John (Abraham) has some hand-to-hand combat sequences in which the action is raw, hardcore and brutal. There are also gun fights and bike chase scenes,” he said.

Gupta revealed that most of the action scenes are performed by the actors themselves and there are hardly any stunt doubles used in the film. The sequences are stylised with high-end camera and lenses.

Mumbai Saga is a gangster drama which revolves around the changing face of Mumbai during the ‘80s and ‘90s. It stars John Abraham as a gangster while Emraan Hashmi will appear as a police officer. It also features Anil Kapoor,  Kajal Aggarwal, Suniel Shetty, Prateik Babbar, Gulshan Grover, Rohit Roy, Mahesh Manjrekar , Pankaj Tripathi, Samir Soni and Amole Gupte.

Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Anuradha Gupta and Sangeeta Ahir, the film is scheduled to be released on 19 June 2020.
