The trailer of Tamil film ‘Airaa’ starring female superstar of South Indian cinema Nayanthara, released on Saturday. It is a horror film written and directed by KM Sarjun. The film also stars Kalaiyarasan and Yogi Babu in the main lead roles.
It was previously scheduled to release on Christmas last year but the film wasn’t complete till then. The first look was out on October 8, 2018.
The film is produced by Kotapadi J Rajesh under the production banner KJR Studios.
This is Nayanthara’s 63rd film and for the first time, she will be seen in the double role. The film’s director told that the actress deviated from her usual makeup style for the film.
He told, “The character’s name is Bhavani, and she is not an urban woman. I wanted it to be a role that Nayanthara hasn’t done so far; in fact, that’s how I pitched it to her,”
He added, “We did a photo shoot and a makeup test after which she got convinced and only after that did we go ahead.”
Interestingly, all the flashback scenes will appear in black and white. “I love black-and-white and we have gone with this tone instead of sepia for the flashback. Even at the writing stage, I’d decided on this approach,” revealed the director.
Talking about the actress and her role, the director said, “Nayanthara has tried something really new, both in terms of makeup and performance. Her body language will jolt the audience.” Her other character is, Yamuna, an ordinary girl from an ordinary village.
“Usually, when an actor plays a dual role, the characters might be related, like twins or siblings; we have tried to break that. Bhavani and Yamuna are two unrelated people, and they will look like two different people on screen,” he promised.
Earlier in an interview, the filmmaker revealed the reason behind the title, “It is derived from the mythological Airaavatham, the elephant of Indira, which is considered as the king of elephants. It is not the name of Nayan’s characters, but I have chosen it to reflect the strength of the character.”
