Monday turned out to be memorable day for the creators of the Netflix series, Delhi Crime. The show won the Best Drama series award at the 2020 International Emmy Awards.

Based on the horrific 2012 Delhi Gang Rape Case, the show starred Shefali Shah in the lead role of inspector, Varika Chaturvedi. While Richie Mehta served as its director.

The investigation which went into the case was the basis for the series which also starred actors Rasika Dugal, Adil Hussain, Rajesh Tailang, and Vinod Sherawat among others.

After winning the award, the director of the series paid tribute to the real life victim and her mother. In his acceptance speech, he said :

“I dedicate this award to all the women who not just endure the violence that so many men inflict on them, but are then tasked to solve the problem. Finally, to the tireless mother, and her daughter. Not a day goes by when I don’t think about you both and what the world subjected you two to. And I hope none of us ever forget that.”

On the other hand, actress Shefali Shah was pumped with excitement after the show was declared the winner. Her tweet translated her excitement. You can check it out here :

 

Her co-stars from the show, Rajesh Tailang and Adil Hussain also tweeted messages of congratulations to the team and expressed their elation on the show winning the award.

With this victory, Delhi Crime became the first Indian show to win an Emmy Award. A historic win for the Indian content industry, which is improving each passing day.
