The top award from the Tribeca Film Festival goes to Alice Wu’s The Half of It which is a teenage spin on Cyrando de Bergerac.

The event was supposed to take place from April 15 through April 26 in New York, but organizers made an announcement about the winners on Wednesday for the festival. Because of the current situation globally, the event got rescheduled but the panel members in the jury were able to see their films electronically and vote on winners.

Jane Rosenthal who is the co-founder and CEO of Tribeca Film Festival stated that they are very fortunate enough that with the technology all the members of jury could come together to honour the filmmakers. In addition to this he also stated that despite the fact that they were not together physically, but still they were able to support the artists.

Director of the festival, Cara Cusumano added that the jury chose a innovative and daring team of filmmakers and artists, the festival is extremely delighted to honor all of them.

Best documentary feature was awarded to Bo McGuire’s Socks on Fire, which has been described by McGuire as “transgenerational docudrama couched in the battle royal for my Nanny’s throne”.

Jan Komasha’s directed film The Hater was also selected as the narrative feature. The members present in the jury panel were Danny Boyle, William Hurt, and Demian Bichir.

Shira Haas, of the series named “Unorthodox”, got the best actress for the Israeli mother-daughter drams Asia.

From a jury that included Gina Rodriguez, Regina Hall and Lippy Calpan, Asia, from director Ruthy Pribar also won the award of Nora Ephron.
