CW is breaking new grounds. After the departure of their show ‘Batwoman’s’ star, Ruby Rose in May questions were raised about its continuity. The makers have now found a new actor for the role. Javicia Leslie, is the actor, who has made history. She is the first black person ever, who is going to play the character. She is also a bisexual, which further breaks many stereotypes.

The show is known for destroying barriers as even its last actor, Ruby Rose was a lesbian which was unlike other superhero shows. It gave the LGBTQ community, a much needed support .

In a statement released by Leslie, the actor talked about her casting in the show and said :

“I am extremely proud to be the first Black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on television, and as a bisexual woman, I am honored to join this groundbreaking show which has been such a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community.”

Further, a report from ‘Collider’ also shared the show’s storyline. The Warner Bros Televison’s shared storyline is as follows :

“Ryan Wilder is about to become Batwoman. She’s likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. She’s also nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the Batsuit before her. With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits. Today Ryan lives in her van with her plant. A girl who would steal milk for an alley cat and could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical all-American hero.”

Apart from Batwoman, Leslie has starred in another shows too. Her former shows are The Family Business and God Friended Me. While, she has also done a film ‘Always A Bridesmaid’.

Leslie’s casting is going to provide a big boost to small communities who have constantly urged movie and tv producers to enhance representation of small communities too.
