Hollywood actress Olivia Wilde recently wrote a series of tweets to clear the air from the ongoing controversy around her role in the film Richard Jewell.

The film, directed by Clint Eastwood, has been facing criticism for showing that the late reporter Scruggs exchanged sex for a piece of information with a cop investigating the Centennial Olympic Park bombing at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. However, friends and colleagues of Scruggs have disputed her reel life portrayal.

The actress responded to the criticism she has faced for playing the role of a journalist in the film. She said that Kathy Scruggs, the real life character she plays, was in a relationship with an FBI agent. Wilde, however, mentioned that she wasn’t taking the creative calls as to how the character will be shaped.

“I cannot speak for the creative decisions made by the filmmakers, as I did not have a say in how the film was ultimately crafted, but it’s important to me that I share my personal take on the matter,” Wilde wrote on Twitter.

Richard Jewell is based on the 1997 Vanity Fair article American Nightmare: The Ballad of Richard Jewell by Marie Brenner. It was based after the above mentioned 1996 bombing incident  where security guard Richard Jewell found a bomb and alerted authorities to evacuate, only to later be accused of placing it himself.

The film stars Paul Walter Hauser, Sam Rockwell and Kathy Bates and was released theatrically on 13 December.
